SPIRITUALITY 101
SPIRITUAL REFLECTION- 117
Deacon Jim Breazile o.c.d.s.

There was a tall and robust grocer. His name was John The gleam in his eyes told everyone that he loved his work and everyone was always happy to see him. One day I ask him the secred of his happiness. Although he was not a rich man, he said that he finds inexpressible joy in the thought that, just as Mary, the mother of Jesus had God within her, we all have God within. He said that this gives him strength in times of difficulty and a reason for continual happiness. He continued, "there is no place in Gods design for anxiety or bad temper. Whoever is with me will see God or at least will have some presentiment of Him."

Every I saw 'happy John,' I recalled Lippert's saying, "In the last analysis our name, habit or dress does not matter if we can be a small lamp that radiates some goodness amid the night of human life."

The Mysteries of the Rosary-2
THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES:
THE VISITATION: Luke 1:39-45

"During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, 'Most blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does it happen to me, the mother of my Lord should come to me? for at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.'"

Mary listened to the Angel's words, and took them to heart. She immediately traveled 80 miles across rough country, constantly in danger of bandits, to the home of Zechariah and Elizabeth, to assist her cousin in preparation for the birth of John the Baptist. The actions of the mother of our Lord provides a model of service for us. As she traveled across the hills of Galilee, through Samaria into Judah for least 4 days, she did not let the dangers of her travel deter her. She did not allow her fatigue to prevent the demonstration of her love for Elizabeth. She knew the urgency of her mission was not only to serve God, but also to serve others in their need. We her spiritual children, have through our baptism accepted her mission as ours. Everyone who is in need deserves our attention. The difficulties of fulfilling our mission of service cannot deter us from its completion.

The actions of Mary are those of true devotion; To react to the needs God places before us, to react "carefully, frequently and promptly (St. Francis De Sales, Introduction to the Devout Life, Part 1, article 1) and to do everything with love. Such devotion is the culmination of sanctifying grace that makes us pleasing to God.

John the Baptist leapt for joy at the presence of the unborn Lord. Conceived in sin, consecrated in the womb, John was born without sin, to become the greatest of all born of woman (Matthew 11:11), John's response of joy at the presence of the unborn Lord provides us with the necessary attitude for the conduct of our mission. The joy of Elizabeth and of the unborn John reveal the demeanor of all Christians. The knowledge of the Love came from heaven to live and die as man, brings joy to all who serve the Lord. Blessed are all who joyfully serve the Lord.

NEW CATHOLIC CATECHISM
ARTICLE NO. 1101
The Holy Spirit gives a spiritual understanding of the Word of God to those who read or hear it, according to the dispositions of their hearts. By means of the words, actions, and symbols that form the structure of a celebration, the Spirit puts both the faithful and the ministers into a living relationship with Christ, the Word and Image of the Father, so that they can live out the meaning of what they hear, contemplate, and do in the celebration.

ARTICLE NO. 1102
"By the saving word of God, faith...is nourished in the hearts of believers. By this faith then the congregation of the faithful begins and grows."(Presbyterorum ordinis No. 4) The proclamation does not stop with a teaching; it elicits the response of faith as consent and commitment, directed at the convenant between God and his people. Once again it is the Holy Spirit who gives the grace of faith, strengthens it and makes it grow in the community. The liturgical assembly is first of all a communion in faith.

CELEBRATING FAITH
Deacon Jim Breazile o.c.d.s.

Understanding of Holy Word
Whenever it is read or heard
With faithful heart and disposition
Is Holy Spirit gift's fruition

By symbols, words and action
By Holy Spirits transaction
Communities growth in faith relation
Results from Spirit's adjudication

What we do, hear and contemplate
Living Image of Father to imitate
Faith is nourished by proclamation
And Holy Word's confirmation

Faith's gift, strength and nourishment
Elicits commitment and consent
