Prayer Requests
January - June 2001

The effect of our prayers can be very powerful, especially when we all pray together. We maintain an email list of Cursillistas who wish to receive notices of prayer requests from other Cursillistas. If you would like to add your email address to the list, please send a request to Dan and Julianne O'Brien

To send a prayer request to be sent out to this group, also send it to Dan and Julianne O'Brien who will forward it to the email list. We will also add it to this page, but since this is a public forum, we will edit them to remove last names and other personal identifying information.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Joe (father of Judy), who passed away yesterday. There will be a Rosary for him, details will be sent out when we know them. Please keep Judy's mom, Mary, in your prayers, along with all the family.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The communist authorities in my hometown in Vietnam are trying to confiscate a small chapel at the foot of the hill where a church was built years and years ago in dedication to Our Lady of the Protection of the Faithful, who appeared there to protect the villagers from the invasion of anti-Catholic soldiers in the 1800's. The local communist officials ordered the faithful to remove the statue of Our Lady and the Holy Cross and other religious items out of the chapel by June 25, 01. After that day they will take over the chapel. The parishioners are now taking turns to stay vigil and pray around the clock, in front of the exposed Blessed Sacrament. They pledge to defend against any illegal invasion of their place of worship at the last drop of their blood like their 117 Holy Martyrs many centuries ago. Please join my countrymen and women in their prayers during this critical time of our Vietnamese people's long struggle for freedom of religion and for respect of human rights and democracy. Thank you very much, indeed. May God bless you all. Joachim.

June 21, 2001

Prayers are needed for Michael, and his parents. Don't have a large forwarding list but I'm hoping that some of you do. Everyone with large mailing list, please forward what I am writing to you to ask for your help. I do not really know how to start a prayer chain, but we need a miracle. Michael is a 2 year-old beautiful little boy in Clifton Park, New York, and the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. A few months ago, he started throwing up and telling Mommy "boo boo in my head." He was brought to the doctors and tests were ran on him, later that week he started losing feeling in the left side of his poor little body. They found a large tumor in his brain. He was brought to a hospital in Boston where doctors told his family the tumor was too big and it was too risky to operate on it. His aunts and uncle would not give up, they called Beth Israel, then E-mailed Dr. Epstein for him to look a Michael's films. Michael's uncle then drove the films to New York City himself for Dr. Epstein to look at. Dr. Epstein operated but couldn't remove the entire tumor and now he has to go through chemo to keep the tumor from growing and hitting the brain stem. We need all the prayers we can get for the chemo to kill the tumor entirely. As I write this, he started chemotherapy and we are hoping desperately that it works. We need all the prayers we can get. Please stop and say one prayer for this beautiful baby boy Michael when you read this letter. They need a miracle of God's healing so that their precious baby boy can grow up. I am asking you to send this letter, or copies of it, to everybody you can think of that will pray for Michael. Please also take his name to your church and church groups and ask others to pray for his healing. Many thanks and may God bless each one of you who care enough to pray for a little boy's life. I am asking that each and every one of you please forward this on to everyone that you know. Just think if this was your little child going through this right now. We all know that God can heal this little angel, if it's His will. Please take time to do this right now.

I do not know the severity or how she is doing at this current time, but just that she is in the hospital. Please say prayers for her safety and a quick and full recovery. Please also pray for her family. The update on L. J. Croskell is that she had respiratory failure. She was stabilized at Shawnee Regional and has been transported to St. Anthony's in OKC for tests. Please keep her in your prayers.

Dear Florida friends of Larry & Joetta's, Mike and Sandy's daughter, Christy, finally received the pathology report from her surgery on February 8th. The news was not good. The cancer has spread. It was found in one of the two lymph nodes that was removed during the surgery. Now the rest of the lymph nodes will have to be removed, followed by chemotherapy. Because of the pregnancy, we don't know when the surgery will take place. This news came as a great shock to us all. We fully expected a miracle -- to be told that there was no more cancer. Christy is handling this latest setback in the same way she has dealt with this situation from the very beginning: The baby comes first -- and she is still as optimistic as she has been all along. She is absolutely amazing, and we are so proud of her. The rest of the family are doing their best to follow her lead. It is not easy. Please continue to pray for Christy, Rob (her husband), the baby, and Mike and Sandy Tobin. They need our prayers now, more than ever.
